A year and a half of multifront warfare holds lessons for Israel’s approach to regional security, peacemaking, and U.S. relations.
The events of October 7 and their aftermath upended security dynamics in the region and called into question Israel’s assumptions about its strategic situation. In its view of the new security environment, Israel will likely seek to redouble its defense capabilities, enlarging the Israel Defense Forces, reducing its reliance on the United States and advanced technology, and viewing with suspicion new negotiations with Palestinian actors.
